December 2013 Holiday
Luncheon.
December
Slideshow. Our Holiday Luncheon was held at the Waterfront
Country Club. 108 members signed up, 107 members attended. Besides
enjoying a great lunch with our friends, we viewed and voted
on the 2013 Rainbow Challenge entries, observed our annual ornament
exchange, and honored all those who served the guild in 2013.
We also inducted our new 2014 officers, which we were unable
to do in November due to a weather cancellation. Our centerpieces
were designed by Janie Lawless and assembled by the Material
Girls. Our Christmas Rose napkin holders were made by Betty Huffman
and the Friendship Bee. (To view the

Slideshow. Our program presenter was Lucille Amos, a certified
instructor for Judy Niemeyer Quilting.We first viewed a slideshow
on Judy Niemeyer's quilting patterns and techniques.Sandy from
The General Store showed us quilts she has made using Judy Niemeyer
Patterns and Lucille Amos also presented a Trunk Show of quilts
made in the Judy Niemeyer tradition.The program was followed

by Program VPs Kate, Pat, and Denise. Three different topics

March 2013 Annual Sew-in.
March
Slideshow. This month was the Guild's Annual Sew-in. From
9am to 2pm members made donation items to help build up the Guild's
charity reserves. We also held a Silent Auction of sewing items
donated by members and celebrated our Founder's Day with Cake.

Homespun: "Adventures in Quilting." We moved from table
to table learning a different technique at each table. We also

Run Through It, Phenix, VA. Lori enlightened us on the use of
a variety of specialty rulers. The Featured Bee of the Month

Slideshow. Our guest speaker and workshop leader was our
own Cindy Clark. In the morning workshop Cindy taught us how
to make an expandable tote bag. In the afternoon Cindy gave us
quilting tips and showed us some of the quilts she has pieced
and quilted. Cindy does longarm quilting and has quilted over
700 quilts for our guild members alone. The Featured Bee of the
Month was the Friendship Bee. The meeting closed with Show &

Carter. In the morning workshop Karen taught us how to make a
quilted picture frame. The afternoon lecture was "The Ecstasy
of Embellishing." Karen presented a slide show and then
shared some of her embellished quilting creations with us. The
