OPERATION KID COMFORT

COME JOIN IN THE FUN AND HELP BRING JOY TO THE CHILDREN OF DEPLOYED SOLDIERS

WHEN: March 6, 2024 10:00am – 4:00pm WHERE: Bedford Water Authority Smith Mountain Lake Water Treatment Facility Meeting Room 1500 Radford Church Road Moneta, VA 24121

WHAT TO BRING: - Sewing Machine - Basic Sewing Supplies (thread, scissors, and all the things that make you the confident quilter that you are) - If you have a cutting mat and rotary cutter that you would like to bring, that would be great. We will be setting up a general cutting station for all to use, but a small personal one on your work table might be nice. - Small travel iron and ironing mat. We will be setting up a general ironing station for all to use, but a small personal one on your work table might be nice. - Power strip for multiple items to plug in – not required, but helpful

YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE DAY, BUT WE WOULD APPRECIATE AS MUCH HELP AND TIME AS YOU ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO GIVE. THANK YOU!

2023 Events

Jan Emerick-Brothers (LQG 2023 President) has implemented a new activity to the Guild's Community Service programs. The Community Out-Reach Exploration Events (CORE) will focus on offering sewing and quilt-related training and presentations at various locations around the area. These events will be open to the public and will help the Guild continue to provide charitable support to the community while also ensuring the art and fellowship of quilting continues. Following are planned events to date:

July 20: SPECIAL CORE EVENT "Stitch It, Don't Ditch It" at Moneta Library 5 pm to 7 pm.

Lake Quilters Guild will present a Mini Quilt Show at the Moneta/SML Library during the months of September and October. The exhibit will feature quilts and quilt-related items made by Guild members. Be sure to stop by and check out all of the lovely quilts and quilt items.

2022 Events

*April 29-30. Lake Quilters Guild Quilt Show will take place April 29-30, 2022. The theme is "Every Story Has a Quilt... Every Quilt Has a Story." It will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church on Rt. 122, across the street from the Moneta/SML Library. The exact street address (for your GPS device) is 13586 Old Moneta Rd., Moneta, Virginia. Hours to be announced later. April 28 - May 1. The Virginia Consortium of Quilters 4 day "Celebration of Quilting" retreat with national teachers will be held at SML 4-H Center. The organization is open to everyone interested in quilting, and members come from surrounding states as well as Virginia. Visit www.vcq.org for more information.

TAVA MaskParade: This is a virtual exhibit created by members of Textile Artists of Virginia (TAVA).The individual face masks and their respective garden settings were designed to suit the personality and preference of each artist. You can view these masks in their garden settings at https://blogs.lt.vt.edu/simplyelemental2020/category/tava-maskparade/. This is worth the visit. You won't be disappointed.
